Im Jahr 1671 wurde das dreigeschossige Fachwerkhaus nach einer Bauinschrift HANS REULE ZIMMERMAN durch den Quedlinburger Zimmermann Hans Reule als Wohnhaus mit Speicher errichtet. Das Erscheinungsbild des Hauses wird durch die nach Norden hin abfallenden Stockwerksschwellen und der damit einhergehenden malerischen Asymmetrie geprägt. Der Dachstuhl hängt nach Osten 70 Zentimeter über. Die Obergeschosse kragen vor, auf dem Dach befindet sich ein Zwerchhaus mit Ladeluke. Die Fachwerkfassade ist mit Pyramidenbalkenköpfen, profilierten Füllhölzern und flacher Schiffskehle verziert. Im Erdgeschoss befindet sich auf der linken Fassadenseite ein sehr kleiner Kastenerker. Bemerkenswert ist auch die Hofdurchfahrt mit dem Hoftor.

Built in 1671 by Quedlinburg carpenter Hans Reule – as indicated by the inscription “HANS REULE ZIMMERMAN”—this three-story half-timbered structure served as both a residence and a storehouse. The building’s appearance is defined by the northward slope of the story sills and the resulting picturesque asymmetry. The roof structure overhangs by 70 centimeters on the east side. The upper stories are jettied, and the roof features a wall dormer equipped with a loading hatch. The half-timbered façade is adorned with pyramidal beam ends, profiled infill timbers, and shallow cove moldings. A very small box oriel window is located on the left side of the ground-floor façade. The courtyard entrance, complete with its gate, is also noteworthy.

Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts wurde im Gebäude die Herberge „Zur Goldenen Sonne“ eingerichtet und bis zum Ende der 1960er Jahre betrieben. Der Eigentümer setzte dann die bisherige Nutzung nicht fort.

At the end of the 18th century, the “Zur Goldenen Sonne” hotel was established in the building and operated until the late 1960s. The owner subsequently discontinued this use.

In den Jahren 1971 bis 1975 sanierte das Institut für Züchtungsforschung Quedlinburg das Haus und nutzte es als Ledigenwohnheim für seine Mitarbeiter. In das Gebäude wurde am Westgiebel ein massives Treppenhaus eingefügt. Eine weitere Stabilisierung erfolgte durch Stahlanker.

Between 1971 and 1975, the Quedlinburg Institute for Breeding Research renovated the building and used it as a residence for unmarried staff members. A solid staircase was added to the building at the west gable, and further stabilization was achieved using steel anchors.

Das östlich angrenzende Nachbarhaus wurde 1975 weitgehend abgerissen und unter Beibehaltung der originalen Fassade in massiver Form wiederaufgebaut.

The adjacent neighboring house to the east was largely demolished in 1975 and rebuilt using solid construction methods, while retaining the original façade.

Nach 1990 erfolgte eine erneute Restaurierung und Instandsetzung.

Im Jahr 1992 erfolgte die Wiedereröffnung als Hotel und Gasthaus.

1998 wurde ein Hotelanbau mit Restaurant und Atrium angefügt. Es wurden 9 neue Doppelzimmer (7 Standard-Zimmer & 3 Comfort-Zimmer) neu errichtet. Diese befinden sich, ebenso wie die neu geschaffene Sonnendachterrasse, im 01. Obergeschoss des Anbaus. Im Zentrum des Anbaus wurde ein Atrium geschaffen welches heute als Hofgarten genutzt wird. An das Atrium grenzen der ebenfalls im Zuge des Neubaus geschaffene Frühstücks- und Veranstaltungsraum “Mathilde” sowie der hoteleigene Parkplatz des Hauses.

In 1998, a hotel extension featuring a restaurant and an atrium was added. Nine new double rooms (seven standard and three comfort rooms) were constructed; these are located—along with a newly created rooftop sun terrace—on the first floor of the extension. An atrium was created at the center of the extension and currently serves as a courtyard garden. Adjoining the atrium are the “Mathilde” breakfast and event room—also built as part of the expansion—and the hotel’s own parking area.

In den Jahren 2012 bis 2015 erfolgte in mehreren Schritten eine brandschutztechnische Modernisierung des Hauses. Dabei wurden sowohl die neuesten und wichtigen brandschutztechnischen Vorschriften als auch die denkmaltechnische Vorgaben berücksichtigt. Unter anderem wurde das gesamte Haus mit einer modernen Brandmeldeanlage ausgestattet. Es wurden für alle Gästezimmer, entsprechend den Vorschriften, die notwendigen zweiten Fluchtwege errichtet und Rauchabzugsanlagen installiert.

Between 2012 and 2015, the building underwent a multi-stage fire safety modernization. This process took into account both the latest essential fire safety regulations and requirements for the preservation of the historic structure. Among other measures, the entire building was equipped with a modern fire alarm system. In compliance with regulations, necessary secondary escape routes were established and smoke extraction systems were installed for all guest rooms.

Im Dezember 2019 erfolgte ein Eigentümerwechsel. Das Hotel befindet sich weiterhin in privatem/familiären Besitz.

A change of ownership took place in December 2019. The hotel remains under private/family ownership.

Im März 2020 musste das Hotel aufgrund der Corona-Auflagen erstmals in seiner Geschichte über einen längeren Zeitraum (bis Ende Mai 2020) schließen und durfte keine Gäste beherbergen. Da die Anordnung der Schließung durch die Corona-Auflagen sehr kurzfristig kam waren die Kühlhäuser und Lager des Hauses noch sehr gut gefüllt. Der Eigentümer entschloss sich, diese Waren einem wohltätigen Zweck zuzuführen und spendete Sie an das Kinder- und Jugendhilfswerk Gernrode e.V. .

Von Ende Mai bis Ende Oktober 2020 konnte sowohl das Hotel als auch das Restaurant wieder Gäste empfangen, beherbergen und bewirten.

Im November 2020 musste das Haus wieder aufgrund der Corona-Auflagen seine Türen schließen und blieb bis Ende Mai 2021 für touristische Gäste geschlossen.

In March 2020, due to coronavirus restrictions, the hotel was forced to close for an extended period (until the end of May 2020)—the first time in its history it had to do so—and was prohibited from accommodating guests. As the closure order resulting from the restrictions was issued on very short notice, the hotel’s cold storage facilities and storerooms were still well-stocked. The owner decided to put these goods to a charitable use and donated them to the “Kinder- und Jugendhilfswerk Gernrode e.V.” (a child and youth welfare organization).

From late May to late October 2020, both the hotel and the restaurant were able to welcome, accommodate, and serve guests once again.

In November 2020, the establishment was once again forced to close its doors due to coronavirus restrictions and remained closed to leisure guests until the end of May 2021.

Im März & April 2021 wurde die Lobby des Hauses umfangreich renoviert. Eine neue Fußbodenheizung sowie ein Parkettfußboden wurden integriert. Ebenfalls wurden die öffentlichen Toiletten des Restaurant modernisiert und auf den neuesten Stand gebracht.

Im Oktober & November 2021 wurde das Restaurant umfangreich renoviert und mit neuen Möbeln ausgestattet.

The building’s lobby underwent extensive renovation in March and April 2021; new underfloor heating and parquet flooring were installed. The restaurant’s public restrooms were also modernized and updated.

Im Frühjahr 2022 wurde der Hofgarten im Atrium des Hauses neu gepflastert und renoviert.

Im Frühsommer 2022 wurde ein neuer Grillplatz mit offenem Kamin geschaffen für die Grillabende im Sommer.
